Review: When I saw the trailer for this movie, I was gob-smack. Super VFX suggested epic movie about the battle of Stalingrad. Great, this will be the longest day or any of the other classic films from World War II. After the first opener was in another part of the world, we can come to Stalingrad. After some initial battle scenes are very well done indeed, puts the insight in what looks like an epic movie is actually a set around the square in the city, and now widely Fighter nt Pavlov's House. Events are shown mounted in front of the Russians surrounded by Germans, so we do not get to see the sight of half-starved Germans. The film is placed in the segments in which the Russian heroes all seem to be obsessed with getting attention or affection 15-year-old Russian civilians (Natashka) who bravely stayed in his home despite the carnage visited city. The obvious intent of the film shows a love story at Stalingrad was not really thought out, simply because the hero who eventually won Natashkas the heart of the blue, with very little in the way of cluing the viewer as it develops. It remains to be shut off and wondering what and why of it. Thomas Kretschmann plays a German officer Peter Kahn, whose main priority seems to be a Russian woman (Masha) who reminds him of his wife, who died in an air strike back in Germany. He literally puts aside all common sense and military discipline, with its obsession for Masha. He defies orders, show little interest in fighting and risking court-martial and execution. There are many good things about this movie. VFX and the sound is amazing, absolutely first class and there with the best. Realism they crammed into VFX simply must be seen and appreciated. The German Panzer tanks is actually a Russian T34 disguised as the Panzer IV, and then replicated to the VFX team in several tanks. Others have mentioned that the Panzer IV tanks in 1942 had a protective metal skirt that appears in the film, but for me it's pedantic. German planes flying over head and body that comes on them is fantastic scenes, like the one where we saw the damaged plane coming and slapped on the square. Hand to hand combat scenes are very realistic. Period uniforms, it seems pretty accurate, especially German. The general appearance of the uniform is welcome and showing them dirty and dusty, which makes a welcome change from unrealistic shiny boots and helmets in the heat of battle as we see in many war movies. Great attention to detail has been given to it. We get some aerial views of the Volga River and damaged VFX period back city and the fire, which was very satisfying. They give the viewer an appealing look and feel of how close the Germans came to victory. Although overall, I do not think it's a bad movie at all, I think it is an opportunity to expand the more lost. I saw it with subtitles and translation quality is pretty bad places, with small errors that I found annoying. There really is not much excuse for it. For me, saved VFX team day. Their work, and the make-up people is a credit to them and help to make this movie visually better than it otherwise deserves to be. I give this film 7 as a sign of respect and gratitude for the work as VFX and makeup team did. It is a short (about 9 minutes I think) VFX Making Of Youtube which I highly suggest watching it shows how VFX is done. |
