Review: First Despicable Me was a great movie, so while there is some concern about whether a sequel would work, you can not help but want to see it anyway. Despicable Me were both good as the first, maybe not so good in terms of plot, but what worked so well in the first works just as well here. Animation, also have the advantage of being true to the style and look that the first had, is bursting with energy and color without looking too over-saturated, and have a lot of depth to it. The retro-futuristic design and inventive gadgets are very impressive to look at, while energy and sleep music is also memorable. Despicable Me 2 gags are written and peppered with humor, and this guy is a laugh-out-loud funny, but because theres a lot and you could be laughing so hard you could risk missing something. Counter balance the hilarity, the film also message is one from the heart and does not feel cloying and out of place. For that story may lack a bit of freshness in the context of the first, more than makes up for it in wit, heart, and how quickly excitement moves without feeling rushed. After most of the subjects of the best assets in the first film was a masterpiece too, and gave their subplot story growing sense of danger and threat (though which is a little more interesting than world domination). Gru is a lovable character, a villain in the first or not, and adds a lot of charisma and energy to the film. The top-notch vocal talents of Steve CARRELLI, Steve Coogan, Kristen Wiig, Benjamin Bratt and even Russell Brand is another advantage. Overall, as the first Despicable Me this sequel is fantastic fun for the whole family, and the like. 9/10 Bethany Cox |
